Lots of great ideas in this article for SPIT to explore--see especially paragraph that mentions YOUmedia- http://youmediachicago.org

Could we utilize some of the ideas Mayor Daley and Co. employed to create all those libraries?

Could we start inviting clubs and organizations into the library for tours? Could we stop thinking of the library as a buidling with walls, floors, ceilings, books and the Internet and go out into the community to sell ourselves as an idea and a resource that is vital to the community's health? I know we do this anyway, but we need to think bigger and start reaching out to commerce and industry as well as schools and local government--it's worth exploring. We could discuss developing a speaker's bureau so that outreach doesn't have to be dependent on one person or department.

Who needs help in our community that we are ideally suited to provide service to? Other than the obvious?

I agree! Thanks so much for the input. Yes, I think our Library can and should evaluate these ideas and discuss how best to implement them. And then actually do it!

Thanks again - CF
